Real Wedding ~ Debbie and Clay

Debbie and Clay are such a beautiful, happy couple! We couldn't wait to share their late summer wedding on Pawley's Island in SC, photographed by Heather Forsythe. The event was designed in a palette of cobalt, navy and white, accented by natural tones, green and antique silver. Debbie wore a gorgeous fit and flare gown by Jane Wang with a sweetheart neckline, crystal embellishment at the bust and a full mermaid skirt. She added Something Blue satin pumps by Manolo Blahnik a cathedral length veil and glittering button earrings. Her bridesmaids wore floor length gowns in navy with vivid cobalt sashes, while the groomsmen wore three piece suits in soft gray. Clay wore a tailored navy pinstripe suit paired with a white button down and silver tie. Debbie and Clay exchanged vows at a small historic chapel on the island where wreaths of white lilies and hydrangea were hung from the iron gates trailing blue velvet ribbon.

The reception was held on the vast lawn of a private property beneath live oaks draped in Spanish moss. A brilliant white tent was decorated with sheer white fabric draped in panels along its perimeter, while white garden lights were strung from the trees. Crystal chandeliers hung above the dance floor and birdcages decorated with white feathers, branches, flowers and berries decorated the cocktail tables. Guest tables were set with white garden chairs and covered in burlap with an overlay of white linen. Our talented friends at Blossoms created tall tree-like centerpiece arrangements wrapped in burlap at the base and hung with small glass vases filled with fluffy hydrangea. In a nod to her name, the bride had a cupboard full of Little Debbie snacks on display for guests to enjoy throughout the evening with a sign above it that read, "Clay's Second Favorite Little Debbie." Incredible Edible Cakes created an exquisite five tier white wedding cake with crystal embellishments and a topper of white feathers. After Debbie and Clay cut their cake, Debbie changed into a short reception dress with a tiered bustle and a pair of cobalt blue Christian Louboutin Bow T Dorcet d'Orsay pumps. HEADPIECE, VEIL (OR BOTH)

Since Chelsea Clinton's wedding, the long tulle veil is suddenly in the spot light once again. There are brides like Chelsea who choose to wear a veil without a headpiece and brides who wear headpieces, ditching the veil altogether.  But what about the bride above?  She's wearing my 'Oralie' headpiece with the  cathedral veil.  The point is, you can do whatever you want as long as you feel beautiful.  A few tips on matching veils to headpieces:

The headpiece: headpiece, gown and veil should all work in tandem. Modern gowns go with beaded hair combs, tiaras and any hat with a veil. A more traditional gown will look great with a Juliet cap, a bow, wreath, hair comb. The ultra-formal gown shouts out for a tiara of Swarovski crystal.  Consider also a hat, Juliet cap (classic) or  mantilla.

The veil: No rules any more about legnth of veil dictated by formality of ceremony.  That means you can wear a Juliet cap with a waltz length veil, a pillbox with a very long cathedral veil.  Just remember to keep everything in balance. If you're tiny maybe the huge hat with your veil is going to be a bit much.  Scale down. . .

Real Wedding ~ Mary and Bobby

A cool vintage truck, a field of horses, cowboy boots, girls in cardigans, boys in tweed vests... How could we not love Mary and Bobby's country wedding in Nacogdoches, TX photographed by Heather Beadles Photography? Designed in palette of greens and naturals accented by sky blue and one brilliant red truck, the December event was held at Mary's family farm, complete with a lively barn reception. Mary wore a form-fitting lace gown and brown cowboy boots with her hair pinned to the side in a loose chignon. She added a chic fur capelet for the outdoor ceremony and exchanged it for a ruffled silk bolero during the reception. Her bridesmaids wore knee-length cocktail dresses in pale khaki with powder blue cardigans and waist cinching belts. They carried bouquets of baby's breath tied with twine, while Mary carried a bouquet of white roses accented by pheasant feathers. Bobby wore a khaki suit and his groomsmen dressed in khaki pants, white button downs, brown tweed vests and chocolate ties. The ceremony was held at sunset in front of a wooden arbor framed by topiaries and wrapped in twinkling white lights with a white chandelier hung from its peak.

Everyone moved into the barn for the reception where long Viking-style tables were covered in white linens with burlap runners. Centerpieces were made using aged wooden dough bowls and sugar molds as vessels for votives and and a variety of floral arrangements in a palette of green, white and brown. Sprigs of cedar and pine flourished the walls and the cake table was decorated with a selection of vintage elements including antique mirrors, candlesticks, window frames and shutters. Glass apothecary jars held pine cones and a bird's nest, while sprigs of baby's breath, cedar and pine were placed around the cake, displayed on a cutting from the trunk of a tree. A canopy of white twinkling lights were strung across the wood beam ceiling of the barn and chandeliers adorned with greenery were hung above the tables. Each guest received a Loblolly pine seedling from Mary and Bobby and and at the end of the evening, the bride and groom exited beneath a shower of sparklers and drove away in a red 1951 Chevrolet pickup truck. Vino e Formaggio ~ A Casual Italian-Inspired Backyard Reception

Stationery designer Erika Firm of Delphine sent us this lovely styled photo shoot titled Vino e Formaggio, which means "wine and cheese" in Italian. As soon as we saw it, we imagined a village wedding in the Tuscan countryside or perhaps in Sicily, followed by an afternoon spent enjoying food, friends and family. Erika and florist Adrianne Smith created this inspired eventscape photographed by Jennifer Dery using a palette of muted neutrals and pastels mixed with wheels of cheese, natural textures such as rattan and carved wood and romantic details such as books, vintage keys, a vintage suitcase and acoustic guitar. The images have an aged feel, adding to the soft palette of green, pink, lavender and coral paired with distressed metallics and a selection of fabrics, including linen, burlap and cashmere. The florals feature repeated appearances of one of our favorite blooms, the Café au Lait Dahlia and if you look closely, you'll see a feline friend curiously sniffing the loaves of bread. A sweetheart table covered in a handmade linen tablecloth was set with polished sterling silver, a mixed place setting of china and delicate crystal and candles and flowers in a variety of vintage mercury glass vessels. Jars and vintage glasses were used to display nuts, olives and cornichons, while heavy wooden cutting boards displayed cheeses from all over the world. We love the hand-written menu displayed on a curling wire frame, along with letterpress place cards and gift tags featuring a hydrangea motif letterpessed on cotton paper. Enjoy!

Real Wedding ~ Heather and Michael

Heather and Michael were married at the picturesque Kiawah Island Resort in South Carolina in a beautiful Lowcountry affair photographed by Damon R. Smith Photography and planned by the amazing team at Engaging Events. The event was designed in a palette based on pretty sky blue accented by a range of natural tones and textures, from sand and seashells to sawgrass and bamboo. Heather wore a simple strapless gown with a gently ruched bodice and an easy A-line silhouette. She carried a lovely bouquet of white flowers, including garden roses, sweet peas and baby's breath, while Michael wore a khaki summer suit and powder blue tie. The ceremony was held on The Ocean Course at the resort with expansive views of the ocean. White garden chairs lined the aisle, decorated with sky blue chair ties and hung with blue hydrangea tied with chocolate satin ribbon. The ceremony centerpiece was a canopy made of bamboo poles with breezy white fabric draped over the top and down the sides. Large arrangements of wheat and sawgrass were situated at either side, framing Heather and Michael's exchange of vows.

Engaging Events designed the reception space drawing inspiration from the seaside setting. Outdoor tables were covered in soft sky blue satin linens and paired with chocolate chivari barstools or rattan armchairs, while centerpieces were made of glass hurricanes filled with sand, shells and tall pillar candles. Indoor guest tables were set with ivory linens and runners in pale blue. A variety of centerpieces ranged from low arrangements of hydrangea to tall cylindrical vases filled with sand, curly willow branches and white dendrobium orchids. Votives and pillar candles were scattered throughout the event on guest and accent tables for romantic soft lighting. The three tier white wedding cake made by Elaine's Events was decorated with small blooms of blue hydrangea and guests took home sweet blue favor boxes wrapped in chocolate ribbon tied off with a sand dollar.

INSPIRATION FRIDAY

Flowers have spoken to me more than I can tell in written words.  They are the hieroglyphics of angels, loved by all men for the beauty of their character, though few can decipher even fragments of their meaning.

Real Wedding ~ Callann and Will

Callann visited India and fell in love with its vibrant culture. She enlisted the help of Reveal Event Style and florist A Village of Flowers to infuse her Nashville, TN wedding with brilliant Indian style and color. Designed in a bold palette of jewel tones, Callann and Will's fall fete was held at the historic Belle Meade Plantation and photographed by Dove Wedding Photography. Callann wore an oyster silk taffeta gown by Vera Wang with a draped halter bodice, floral embellished sash and a skirt with tiers of ruffles. She added a pair of violet peep toe pumps, a birdcage veil and a full bouquet of soft coral garden roses mixed with jeweled brooches. Her bridesmaids wore chic, shoulder-baring cocktail dresses in rich plum, while Will and his groomsmen wore black tuxedos with orange bowties.

The palette based on orange and violet was accented by gold carving and colorful embroidered and patterned pieces and fabrics, transforming the reception tent on the lawn of Belle Meade. A long Viking-style at the center of the tent was draped in patterned orange overlays with gold embroidery to match the stunning chair backs created for the wedding party with elaborate gold frames and orange paisley fabric. Centerpieces were created using a variety of bright blooms, while stacked orange parasols hung over the center of the table draped with ropes of flowers for a dramatic display. Round guest tables were covered in a mixture of linens ranging from orange patterned overlays to eggplant solids paired with folded napkins in bright tangerine, amber water goblets and gold chivari chairs. Ornate embroidered and solid floor pillows were scattered throughout for lounging, lanterns and candles offered flickering candlelight and draping created the feeling of an intimate space. The couple's four-tier ivory and white wedding cake made by Maples Wedding Cakes featured intricate with piping and bold patterned color washes lit the ceiling. Enjoy!
