Alan Kirsch: Blossoms has an incredibly creative team of designers. Every member of our team brings a different aesthetic to the table, providing us with a constant array of fresh and innovative ideas. We have a retail store stocked with the work of local artisans from the Asheville area along with a design studio.WU: How did you become a floral and event designer? When and how did you begin Blossoms at Biltmore Park? AK: Floral and event design found us. The principles of Blossoms came together from a variety of backgrounds. Before Blossoms, they were a development director at a non-profit for the arts, college instructor, community development/tourism director, and attorney. Over several drinks they hatched a brilliant plan to open a full service flower shop and event design firm with fresh designs. The business has blossomed ever since.WU: Tell us about how you work with engaged couples, whether as a team or individually. AK: We love getting to know our couples. We treat our consultations like we would a first date. It's mainly about getting to know each other. We rack the brains of our brides (and sometimes grooms!!) in an effort to understand their color palette, their location, and the overall theme of their event. After comparing pictures and inspirations, the design is born..WU: Describe your wedding style.AK: We take the brides style, and design ideas and run with it. Each of our weddings is as different as the brides.WU: What inspires you?AK: Everything can turn itself into an inspiration for a new floral design. Whether it be ordinary things found in nature, modern design elements, unique textural components or just the time of year. Every now and again, you'll stumble across something you see everyday and an idea will pop into your head as to how you could incorporate it into a new design. We feel very lucky to work in such a creative and fulfilling line of work.WU: How do you keep your ideas fresh? AK: We have an incredible design team that is constantly dreaming up new creative ideas. They are persistently pulling from new trends, vintage looks and natural elements to create a design that is completely one of a kind.WU: What was your favorite wedding and why? AK: Mine! For obvious reasons!!WU: What makes Blossoms at Biltmore Park different from other floral and event designers? AK: We try very hard to capture the couple within every event. We spend the time getting to know our clients in an effort to completely embody them in every design element. Our design team is very diverse, all with different design aesthetics and the ability to lead the team in making the design come to life. Whether it be a traditional, modern, or themed wedding, thanks to our great team, we can do it all!WU: What would be your ideal wedding assignment or dream wedding to design?AK: Because we are located in the Mountains, we do a lot of outdoor weddings. I think it would be really fun and different to design a very urban or industrial wedding. Something we don't do as often.WU: Tell us three things you can't live without.AK: Coffee, fiddle ferns and Sugar Mama's peanut butter cookies.WU: What is the best advice anyone has ever given you? AK: Go Big or Go Home....WU: What is the best advice you can give to an engaged couple?AK: have fun and don't sweat the small stuff
