Baked Charleston

Baked, the famous Brooklyn, New York specialty bakery and coffee shop, has migrated south. The new store in Charleston, SC opened it's sweet doors in late 2008 and has been a hit ever since. Baked Charleston offers hand-made cakes, pies, cookies, tarts, cupcakes, brownies, marshmallows, muffins, scones, quiches and various other freshly baked breakfast and confection items (whew!). In addition to the fantastic list of eats, the shop also offers Stumptown Coffee and free wifi, encouraging guests (easily) to linger as long as they'd like.

Baked founders Matt Lewis and Renato Poliafito opened their first store in Brooklyn in 2005. They continue to oversee operations in New York, while Pastry Chef Patrick Panella, who moved to Charleston from the Brooklyn store, is overseeing the new kitchen and bakery. Baked has also introduced Baked Weddings, offering all kinds of hand-made goodness to brides everywhere.

In addition to the two bakeries, Lewis and Poliafito recently published their first cookbook, Baked: New Frontiers in Baking, in October of 2008. The book is a collection of Baked’s most beloved recipes, including favorites like the Sweet & Salty Cake, Peanut Butter Crispy Bar, Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Loaf and Cheddar Chipotle Biscuits. Look for an upcoming Completely Unveiled contest offering a chance to own the new book from this fantastic bakery!

If you're in the Charleston area, visit Baked, open weekdays from 7am to 7pm, and weekends from 8am - 11pm.
