October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and there’s no better time than now to Think Pink! Since it’s beginning more than 20 years ago, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month has been dedicated to increasing awareness of breast cancer issues and the importance of early detection. During this special month, we are doing our part in the fight against breast cancer and encouraging all of you to join us.
FAST FACTS ABOUT BREAST CANCER
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the United States and the second deadliest behind lung cancer.
There are slightly over 2 million women living in the United States who have been treated for breast cancer.
An estimated 182,460 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States this year and over 40,000 women will die from the disease.
The chance of a woman having invasive breast cancer sometime during her life is about 1 in 8 and the chance of dying from breast cancer is about 1 in 35.
Breast cancer DOES occur in men. In fact, almost 2,000 men will be diagnosed this year and approximately 450 will succumb to the disease.

More and more people are doing their part to raise awareness. Sex and the City’s Cynthia Nixon went public with her battle with breast cancer two years after the fact and this year, actress Christina Applegate became a victim of the disease at the early age of 36 and opted for a double mastectomy.
One way you can become involved in the fight against breast cancer is by supporting companies and products whose sales and profits benefit organizations dedicated to research, raising awareness and helping the victims of breast cancer and their families. Throughout the month of October, we’ll post some of our favorite Pink Picks each week as a special installment of Stuff We Love.
